  • Alternating Polarity Resistance/Resistivity Test of 6517B

    Thu, 23 Feb 2023 07:27:31 GMT – Alternating Polarity Resistance/Resistivity Test of 6517B

    Hello all,
according to Volume and Surface Resistivity Measurements of Insulating Materials Using the 6517B Electrometer/High Resistance Meter | Tektronix
Icalc is a weighted average of the latest four current measurements, each at the end of a separate alternation.

Could you help to advise how to define the Weight of the four current measurement.  is it 0.25 for each current measurement or other?

And  I don't quite understand about below parameter for Standard method resistivity tests

PRE-DISCH: The predischarge time in seconds.

BIAS-TIME: The bias time in seconds.

MEAS-V: The measurement voltage. This is typically set to the same level as BIAS V.
MEAS-TIME: The measurement time in seconds.

what is BIAS-TIME, and what is the difference between predischarge time and measurement time

Fri, 10 Feb 2023 01:18:44 GMT – Which command group to retrieve the specturm measurement results of MSO44?
    Hi Afonso,
Oops, after that, I didn't try to read the value again. it seems I couldn't find the CPOWER type on Page 2-886, the page is about MEASUrement:MECH:GRATio.  and does the command MEASUrement:MEASx:CPWIDTh not in the manual?

I didn't find the instruction for measurement:immediate in the manual. Are we talking about the same version of manual 077-1305-17?
  • RE: Zero check and Zero correct of 6514

Wed, 01 Feb 2023 08:48:10 GMT – Zero check and Zero correct of 6514
And on the setting screen of Kickstart which below NPLC, is it Zero check or Zero correct?
-----------updated: it seems to be auto zero.SYST:AZER

It seems RS232 connection will result in communication error when trying to read the data according to  Kickstart, but setting seems working.

    Thanks Ty,
Now I'm understand the function of Zero check. But I'm still not sure about the difference between Zero correct and Zero check, It seems Zero check is enough.
How does Zero correct perform on the reading?
Is that means Zero correct is to eliminate the temperature effect?

Zero correction cancels the voltage offset term of the amplifier. With both zero check
and zero correct enabled, the instrument may not display a perfectly zeroed reading.
If Model 6514 is operating at, or near TCAL, zero correction will have very little affect.
TCAL is the internal temperature of Model 6514 when it was last calibrated.

    Hello All,
I don't quite understand the function of Zero check and Zero correct.
What should we do before and after reading a value? that means when to enable and disable the function.
Could you help to explain more about these two functions?  thanks.

    Hello Teles,

Thanks for the feedback. it seem the calculation result is the same between us.

N may have a bit impact on the calculation. but it seems not the key factor of the deviation.
and thanks for the command MEASUrement:MEASx:CPWIDTh.

    Thanks for the help always.

And for how can we set the measurement to read channel power programatically.

MEASUrement:MEAS1:TYPe (I mean what string to input here ), or is that means do not support spectrum measurements in this group?P2-874

here is data for the calculation. a typo inside the picture, channel power on scope is -5.06dbm

try to update CBW from 100-5000, the devation is always about 0-0.4 dbm.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    reviewed the above reply,

    • To set/query CBW (the difference between the upper and lower frequency)
      CHx:BANdwidth

the command seems could not recall the channel width. CBW should be channel width instead of bandwidth limit? am I correct?

    Hello Iris,
Thanks. understood the N and Pk could be found out according to the spectrum data.

It seems I was able to get the value very close to the value show on the scope screen. but always a bit deviation, no matter I update the CBW or not.

here is another question. I'm not sure how to calculate the N exactly in the scope. because the data point interval frequency(here df=52.6316Hz) from the spectrum data alway to be a floating value instead of the integer. I need to calculate N by CBW/df, it could be a floating value. should I do it round to the nearest integer or what..  it seems when the calculate result is x.5, the deviation is the maximum.

probe compensation source, center frequency 9k Hz, SPAN 40K Hz, RBW:100 Hz.  CBW:1000 or others
    Start_Frequency  0
    Stop_Frequency   29000
    increment  52.63158971
    samples    552

here is another picture for what I have found.

don't know why the post easily to be messed up by the symbol, but sometimes it is ok.
